Languages and forms of language-use such as poems, proverbs, folk-songs, lullabies, stories are intricately linked with our lives. The way we live reflects in our language and language-use. It won’t be too far-fetched to say that we live in and through our language. A Punjabi blessing captures it well….
….. and a Punjabi curse does too!
There is blessing in Punjabi language that translates in English as “May you live as long as a folk-song!”
And if you wish to curse someone in Punjabi, you can say “May you forget your mothertongue!”
